Subject: Re: Jonah99 Dear Michael, .... By the way, the real Jonah sequences identified by Carlson and Hogness (1985, Developmental Biology, 108:341-354 ) are serine proteases. I wanted to sort out Janet Collett's Jonah 99C sequence so I went back to original papers. I was able to infer what these sequences were by creating a database of approximately 200 kilobases around the putative genetic locations of the seven Jonah locations. I search each region against all of the other six regions and was able to find members of the gene family. Based on their restriction maps and the locations of the serine proteases with respect to the maps, I made the following identifications: Jonah 25B (3 genes: Ser4, CG8869, CG8871) Jonah 44E (1 gene: CG8579) Jonah 65A (7 genes: CG10475, CG6580, CG6483, CG6467, CG6462, yip7, CG10477) Jonah 66C (2 genes: CG7118, CG7170) Jonah 99C Beta (3 genes: Ser99Dc, Ser99Da, Ser99Db) Jonah 99C Alpha (I wasn't sure of the gene ID here) Jonah 99F (2 genes: CG18030, CG2229) One problem is that Carlson and Hogness identified a subset of the Jonah's in their midgut cDNA screen and I bet that there are other members of the family that already have different names. ....
