Subject: Helping FlyBase: ADRC-60298 Dear Leonardo, We are currently curating the abstracts for the upcoming 48th (Philadelphia) Annual Drosophila Research Conference, for FlyBase. I am writing in connection with your abstract: Evolution of the Y-chromosome: changes in gene content in 8 Drosophila species. You mention two gene symbols that are new to FlyBase, ARY and WDY, though do not explicitly describe these as new genes. Do you know which of the CG annotations these genes correspond to? If not, do you know of any prior publications that reference them (we do not cover the entire literature, so could easily have missed them). Best regards, Rachel. Subject: Res: Helping FlyBase: ADRC-60298 Dear Rachel, Thanks for your e-mail and your concerns. The ARY and WDY genes are new genes that will be described in a paper that will be submited in a couple of months. ARY gene was previously annotated as CG40064, while WDY is composed by a small part of CG40245 and CG40449. This fidings were confirmed by RT-PCR and sequencing. I hope that I answered your questions. If you have any other doubts, please, feel free to e-mail me. Best regards, Leonardo Leonardo B.
