Subject: sticky alleles D'Avino, Savoian and Glover (J Cell Biol 166, 61-71 2004) report that two of the Szeged third-chromosome P insert lines are in fact hobo insertions in sticky but they don't give the full information! In fact, four of the Szeged lines turn out to carry sti alleles (l(3)S045902, l(3)S044823, l(3)S050115 and l(3)S050110), by mapping genetically to ca 69, by failing to complement 69D deficiencies, and by failing to complement each other and pre-existing sti alleles (all me). I don't know which of these were designated alleles 4 and 5 in the paper -- it doesn't seem to say. Adelaide Subject: FBrf0179178 and sticky alleles Hi Paolo, I'm looking at your paper *x FBrf0179178 == D'Avino et al., 2004, J. Cell Biol. 166(1): 61--71 and see that there are two sticky alleles that are from the Deak screen - sti4 and sti5. The question is - which Deak insertions are these? We already have records for them with Deak-esque names, and do not want to make additional alleles without the correspondences being recognised. best regards, Rachel. Subject: Re: FBrf0179178 and sticky alleles Hi Rachel, Thanks for your message. sti4 is 448/23 sti5 is 459/2 or 501/15; even though these are two different stocks, molecular analysis indicate that the insertion in sti is the same. Plaese note that the mutations in sti are NOT caused by the P elements present in the original stocks but by hobo inserts that probably jumped along during the mutagenesis. We actually eliminated the P elements by recombination in our sti mutants. Paolo
