Though ushE6 was EMS-induced, it carries a deletion that uncovers several genes distal to ush, including ush but not expanded (ex). These genetic data (P.H. unpublished) was confirmed molecularly by Nathalie Franc during her work on crq (Science 1999, 284: 1991-1994, but not mentioned in this paper). She noticed that the size of the deletion is around 70 kb (unpublished).
This is why I renamed ushE6 to Df(2L)ushE6.
