This message is in regard to the gene S6kII and the FlyBase entry for "rsk2". From our molecular analysis (Inlow and Restifo, 2004), fly S6kII is the ortholog of human RSK2, mutations of which cause mental retardation of several types. For a while, there was some controversy over what the fly gene would be called and I referred to it as "rsk2" in a Fly meeting abstract (FBrf0198502). This appears to be the only basis for the listing of rsk2 in FlyBase. It seems to me that rsk2 should be listed as a synonym for S6kII, and that the page for rsk2 should be removed (or stored in the attic). I hope this makes sense.
