The following information accompanied stocks donated to the Bloomington Stock Center by Jim Mason, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Df(2L)M26 was generated as a terminal deletion of chromosome arm 2L. The telomere-associated sequence (TAS) repeats were deleted, but none of the unique sequence from the 2L tip was deleted. The terminally deleted chromosome gained a TART element serendipitously and the chromosome was then backcrossed to a Su(var)205 mutation to grow the telomeric retrotransposon (HTT) array. It was used to demonstrate that 2L TAS repeats were responsible for the suppression of telomeric position effect associated with the tip of 2L.
