The D. melanogaster gene currently named 'Rad51C' in FlyBase (CG2412,FBgn0033389) is in fact the ortholog of vertebrate RAD51D. ('spn-D' is the RAD51C ortholog.)
The D. melanogaster gene currently named 'Rad51D' in FlyBase (CG6318,FBgn0030931) is the ortholog of vertebrate XRCC2. (As noted above, the gene currently named 'Rad51C' is the RAD51D ortholog.)
Thus, for clarity and consistency with the vertebrate nomenclature, 'Rad51C' should be renamed 'Rad51D', and 'Rad51D' should be renamed 'Xrcc2'.
