The flanking sequences for the l(3)j2E11 insertion line map to unique sites 25.7 kb apart. The 3' flank (AQ026309) maps to within the CG6833 gene and the 5' flank (AQ034129) maps to within the btl gene. The derived cytogenetic locations of both sites (70D1 and 70D2) are consistent with in situ localization of the insertion (70D2) recorded in FlyBase. Spradling et al. 1999 table 5 lists l(3)j2E11 as being allelic to l(3)00208 (now known as btl00208), consistent with there being an insertion in the btl gene in l(3)j2E11.
