This will aid cross-species comparison and disambiguate the equivalent subunits. Where the mapping is missing from Greber and Ban (2016), the other sources from which the nomenclature has been mapped are listed.
In the unified nomenclature, the prefix 'u' indicates that the subunit is universally conserved from bacterial ribosomes to eukaryotic cytoplasmic ribosomes. The prefix 'b' indicates that the subunit is conserved in bacteria. An 'm' is added as a suffix or prefix if the subunit is a component of the mitoribosome.
