Jupiter was made from an exon-trap fly strain producing a Jupiter-GFP fusion protein. Jupiter differs from S2-DGRC in many transcriptional properties, among them a higher expression of Abd-B in Sg4, and a much higher expression of defensins in S2-DGRC.

Primary cultures were established from homozygous jupiter:gfp transgenic embryos presenting strongly fluorescent microtubules during the whole cell cycle.
