Comments

"gtwin" is short for "gypsy-twin", the name given to this transposon to reflect its similarity to the gypsy transposon (FBte0000021). Nevertheless, many people consider "gypsy" to be a pejorative term. "mdg4-twin" is the most appropriate synonym to use for this transposon if one wishes to avoid "gtwin". Transposon names incorporating "gypsy" have been retained by FlyBase as efforts are made to change the transposon family name across all eukaryotes.

Expression is enriched in embryonic gonads.
