rP2X2 corresponds to the ATP-gated nonselective cation channel encoded by the Rattus norvegicus P2rx2 gene (RGD:620251), with a T184I amino acid substitution in the predicted ATP binding pocket. It can be used as a tool to activate neurons in response to ATP. The T184I mutation results in a reduced response to ATP compared to the wild-type rP2X2 tool (FBrf0245725).
