Fragment containing the oxygen-dependent degradation (ODD) domain of the Homo sapiens HIF1A gene (HGNC:4910). Under normoxia, the P402 and P564 residues in the ODD domain are hydroxylated (PMID:12586829, PMID:11292861, PMID:11292862), which results in the HIF1A protein being targeted for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation (PMID:9653127). Under hypoxia, the protein is stabilized (PMID:9653127). If fused to an appropriate reporter protein, Tag:ODD(HIF1A) can thus be used to generate a genetically encoded biosensor for visualizing hypoxia in vivo (FBrf0189809).
