LiLac is a high-performance lifetime-based biosensor for quantitative imaging of intracellular lactate. LiLac is based on the lactate-binding domain from the Helicobacter pylori tlpC gene; this domain has been inserted (flanked by flexible linkers) into the mTurquoise2 fluorescent protein, followed by mutagenesis and selection to optimize the properties of the sensor (PMID:35614105).
