An Hsp83 promoter drive expression of a chimeric transcript that contains a 5.8kb 5' regulatory fragment of Sxl, carrying the cis-acting sequences required for sex-specific splicing, fused to sequence encoding a lacZ reporter (no functional Sxl protein is produced by this transcript).
