Description

Yp1 transcription unit including 883bp of its upstream DNA. A fragment of bacteriophage M13 DNA has been inserted into the transcription unit to allow the transcript produced by this construct to be distinguished from endogenous Yp1 transcripts.

Yp1 5' sequence to -883 with respect to start of transcription is sufficient for directing female-specific expression.

Female-specific expression of Yp1 is retained with 883 bp of 5' sequence. Transcript is detected only in adults. Northern blots of RNA from hand-dissected female tissues shows expression to be present in fat bodies, as well as in in the head and thorax (the latter two tissues contain fat body cells).
