Expression is observed in a subset of R7 cells, and in the axonal projections of those cells.

Expression is observed in <i>pale</i> R7 cells, paired with R8 cells expressing Rh5. Additionally, Rh3 is expressed in both R7 and R7 cells in the dorsal margin of the retinal.
