tll regulatory sequence from -2300bp to +465bp (just 3' of the tll intron) is fused to lacZ. An 8bp deletion occurred during the cloning process, resulting in a stop codon in the coding sequence, so that no functional lacZ protein is produced (although transcription still occurs).
Expression at the syncytial and cellular blastoderm stages is observed to be signifcantly higher in anterior cap of the embryo that in the posterior cap. Expression in the posterior cap is lower than that observed for native tll expression.
