A diagram of the P{XP} element is available at the [GDP Transposons page](http://flypush.imgen.bcm.tmc.edu/pscreen/transposons.html)
The P{XP} element contains UAS regulatory sequences at both ends, with each copy of UAS being oriented outwards, so that when expression is driven by a GAL4 driver, transcription is directed outwards from both ends of the element, potentially driving overexpression of any nearby genomic loci in both directions. The UAS sequences at the 5' end of the element are flanked by a pair of long (199bp) FRT sites (in the same orientation), which allows for removal of the marker using FLP recombinase. A w+mC marker and a gypsy insulator sequence are also present, in between the two sets of UAS sequences (they are positioned such that the gypsy insulator is proximal to the UAS sequences at the 3' end of the element).
