Expression is first detected during the middle of the third instar in myoblasts associated with the wing imaginal disc. High expression levels are maintained in these cells during early stages of pupal development. At 8hr APF the myoblasts start to migrate to where flight muscles develop and shortly after begin to surround the larval oblique muscles (LOMs). They then start to fuse with them and between 14 and 20 hours APF the three larval muscles split into six templates for the dorso-longitudinal musclses (DLMs). At 12hr APF, expression is observed in the myoblasts that surround the LOMs. At 21hr APF myoblast fusion is going on and the DLMs are forming. Expression is seen in the myoblasts surrounding the fibers but not in the forming muscles fibers themselves. Toward the end of the fusion process, expression is no longer detected.
