A conserved DNA sequence cluster from the vvl gene (length: 1934bp, conserved bases: 738bp) is fused upstream of a minimal Hsp70 promoter driving expression of the GAL4 open reading frame.

ScerGAL4vvl.43 activates expression in ectodermal cells; no expression is detected in embryonic neuroblasts. Expression is also driven neurons of the larval brain lobes and thoracic segments of the ventral nerve cord, and neurons of the adult subesophageal ganglion and optic lobe.
