        Stop-codon suppression (UGA as Sec) postulated (FBrf0133278); reflected in aa sequence of predicted polypeptide.

        The open reading frame of the Sps2 mRNA is interrupted by a UGA codon. The putative selenocysteine insertion sequence (SECIS) in the 3\' UTR of Sps2 mRNA causes translational readthrough in transfected Drosophila cells and transgenic embryos. Mammalian SECIS elements also increase readthrough in Drosophila cells.
