fusion competent cell & visceral muscle primordium
muscle founder cell & circular visceral muscle primordium
Unlike controls, jebweli/Df(2R)BSC699 stage 13 embryos do not show intermingling between visceral mesoderm precursor cells and gonadal precursor cells.
The visceral mesoderm fails to undergo fusion in jebweli/Df(2R)BSC199 embryos and is abnormal.
Mutant embryos lack all circular visceral founder cells, but show normal early endoderm migration.
Morphological and marker analyses indicate that stage 11 jebweli homozygous embryos lack muscle founder cells in their circular visceral mesoderm. The remaining cells in the visceral mesoderm differentiate as fusion competent myoblasts and express genes that are characteristic for this differentiated cell type.
