Description
Description
Peroxisomes are eukaryotic organelles critical for the metabolism of fatty acids, particularly very-long-chain fatty acids, and other metabolites. The peroxin genes encode proteins required for peroxisome biogenesis. (Adapted from FBrf0209624).
Notes on Group

Several peroxin genes have been found in D.mel by homology to yeast or human genes: Pex23 to yeast Yarrowia lipolytica PEX23 (FBrf0215017), Pex7 and CG13827 to human PEX7 and PEX11C (FBrf0219445 and FBrf0222399), respectively. Their function remains unclear in Drosophila (FBrf0215017 and FBrf0219445).

kis, which was suggested as a potential peroxin by its similarity to Yarrowia lipolytica PEX20 (FBrf0215017), has been removed from the PEROXINs Gene Group as it has been well-characterized as a chromatin remodeling factor (FBrf0222914).
