Exhibits a dominant wing phenotype similar to that associated with D alleles, but the dominant phenotype is not due to D.

Behaves as a null allele when assayed in the embryo.

Wings are held out at 45^o and bent slightly back at axil, the wings and body are small, like D⁴. Alulae are reduced proximally, the remnant is a small triangular flap with marginal bristles. Halteres are at partially held down to fully down. Presutral bristles are missing. Chromosome exhibits a dominant ri-like phenotype.

There is some uncertainty in the designation of D¹, D³ and Df(3L)D⁹ as dominant D alleles.
