P-element mutagenesis using the SynP1+P2 strain containing the P{lacW}SynP1 and P{lacW}SynP2 insertions has resulted in the deletion of the entire genomic region between the two insertions, such that Timp exons 2-5 and Syn exons 1-8 are absent.
Df(3R)Timp-Syn28 (a deficiency spanning both Timp and Syn genes) mutant larvae display peristaltic contraction defects (longer wave duration, variable frequency pattern) and adults have reduced survival rates, these defects are not observed in Syn97 larvae suggesting the phenotype is due to perturbation of the Timp gene. Df(3R)Timp-Syn28 mutant adults also show wing defects (misshapen wings with blisters and necrotic patches).
