Df(2R)CR44455-CR44456 homozygote males are completely sterile while females do not show any decrease in fertility compared to wild-type. The mutant spermatid and mature sperm cell nuclei are significantly smaller than those of controls from the meiotic stage onwards and their investment cones are lagging and disorganized during the individualization step of spermatogenesis compared to wild-type.
