Homozygous males have a mating rate 1% of wild type levels, this rate increases with age, if allowed sufficient time with females progeny are produced. For mating success apc is an amorph. Homozygous males showed reduced levels of nonwing courtship at 1 day old but similar levels of nonwing courtship to wild type at 2--3 days old, this may be attributable to the ap locus. Homozygous males had higher immature sex appeal than mature wild type flies and higher rates of all components of courtship at all ages. 2 day old hemizygous apc males have a 10--60 fold higher sex appeal than hemizygous ap+ males.
Homozygous flies have virtually no wing blade and have 45% female receptivity to mature male ap+ flies. The receptivity is lower for flies heterozygous with Df(2R)M41A4. Females are fertile but have a low courtship intensity.
