Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Mutants have a rough eye phenotype with minor defects in ommatidial assembly.

Heterozygotes and homozygotes appear wild-type, although homozygotes can show a phenotype as extreme as ast1/ast1 under unfavourable culture conditions.

Phenotypically wild-type. Enhances expression of S1 in heterozygotes. S1/ast4 has smaller eye than S1/+; resembles ast1/ast1 in wing phenotype. RK3.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The suppression of the sev6 R7 phenotype by SosJC2 is almost entirely reversed if the flies are also made heterozygous for ast1 or ast4.

S1/ast4 flies have smaller eyes than S1/+ flies and they also occasionally have gaps at the tips of the longitudinal wing veins. The phenotype is dominantly enhanced by E(S)1; ast1 E(S)1 double heterozygotes have rough eyes.
