Homeotic transformation of halteres to wing. Hemizygotes survive to adulthood.

Transformation of posterior haltere to wing in the adult cuticle.

Adult heterozygotes show transformation of T3p to T2p (haltere to wing).

Posterior haltere to wing transformation of hbD1 is affected by ftz mutations.

T3p is transformed towards T1p: The bristles on the posterior margin of the femur change from short to long bristles.

The frequency of variegated bithorax transformations seen in Df(3R)red-P52 heterozygotes and the frequency of variegated postbithorax transformations seen in hbD1 heterozygotes is increased in Df(3R)red-P52 hbD1 double heterozygotes.

A gain-of-function mutation; viable both in heterozygous and homozygous condition. Phenotype resembles that of pbx; insensitive to additional doses of hb+ but suppressed by extra doses <up>e. g., five copies of the bithorax complex+ (Lewis)</up>; enhanced in heterozygous combination with null alleles of ftz.
