Polytene chromosomes normal.
Germline clonal analysis demonstrates the resulting embryos fail to develop.
The major lethal phase is during the late pupal stage. Germ-line mosaics show a maternal effect; eggs produced by mutant ovarioles never develop beyond the gastrula stage, irrespective of the zygotic genotype. Homozygous clones in the adult hypoderm produce small bristles which are slightly disoriented and plexate wing veins. Body colour: homozygous clones in the adult hypoderm produce unpigmented cuticle. Gynandromorphs show vibrating appendages in the mutant territory.
