viable (with CIAPIN1NP5152)
ovary (with CIAPIN1NP5152)
CIAPIN12/CIAPIN1NP5152 females have rudimentary ovaries, which contain no egg chambers beyond stage 8 of development. A loss of follicle cells is seen, such that follicle cell tissue fails to cover the entire egg chamber. A significant reduction in the number of follicle cells per egg chamber is seen by stage 4. An increased level of follicle cell apoptosis is seen compared to wild type, with apoptosis being detected as early as stage 2. Follicle cell replication (as assayed by BrdU incorporation) appear normal, but there is a marked decrease in mitotic index of the follicle cells compared to wild type, with more than 90% of stage 2-4 egg chambers having a mitotic index of zero. All phases of mitosis are readily identified in the mutant follicle cells, with no significant difference in the fraction of cells in each phase compared to wild type.
CIAPIN12/CIAPIN1NP5152 is rescued by Scer\GAL4Act.PU/CIAPIN1UASp.cMa
CIAPIN12 is rescued by Scer\GAL4Act.PU/CIAPIN1UASp.cMa
CIAPIN12/CIAPIN1NP5152 is not rescued by Scer\GAL4VP16.nanos.UTR/CIAPIN1UASp.cMa
Expression of CIAPIN1Scer\UAS.P\T.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU rescues the lethality of CIAPIN12 homozygotes, and rescues the sterility of CIAPIN12/CIAPIN1NP5152 males and females.
Expression of CIAPIN1Scer\UAS.P\T.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 fails to rescue ovarian development in CIAPIN12/CIAPIN1NP5152 females.
