Insertion into the 5' untranslated region.
Homozygotes and hemizygotes die as larvae without any morphological defect.
Homozygous clones in the wing result in thickened wing veins and loss of the wing margin. Clones located some distance from a normal vein do not show any mutant phenotype and differentiate normal looking wing hairs. Homozygous clones often result in a multiple bristle phenotype (for example in the notum).
Homozygotes die during the first to third larval instar stages. Embryos derived from homozygous female germ line clones show poor cuticle development. This phenotype can be partially paternally rescued.
Germline clones produce eggs with poor cuticle development.
