Homozygous germline clones display cell lethality.
Emergence is delayed until at least the third day after non-lfl- flies have begun to hatch in non-overcrowded cultures, so that more than 90% of the non-lfl- flies have hatched by the time the lfl1 flies begin to emerge. Viability is approximately 20-30% of wild type. lfl1 flies are small but do not have a narrow abdomen. lfl1/lfl2 flies are not particularly small, but they lack thoracic hairs, head and thoracic bristles. The eyes are often roughened and the wings are abnormal, often with interrupted posterior crossveins. In(1)FM6/lfl1 flies are normal.
