Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

Introduction of extra heterochromatin (an extra Y chromosome in the male) does not affect the action of mw1.

Produces no visible phenotype in a wild-type background.

w alleles that are sensitive to mw1 are insertion alleles; at least six different transposable are elements involved. Insensitive w alleles are not insertion mutants. RK1.

Dilutes, in a variegated fashion, the phenotype of wa and seven other intermediate w alleles.

A specific modifier of wa and other intermediate alleles at the w locus; it makes the colour of the eyes much lighter, especially in the female. The eye colour is patchy in these flies and there is considerable variation between individuals as well as between the two eyes of the same fly, although there is a positive correlation between the latter. Classification is always possible.
