Hemizygous males exhibit a reduction in the size of four ganglion within the optic lobe, the medulla is facing anteriorly and the division of the lobula and lobula plate is not seen.
Eye morphology normal. Gynandromorph analysis and somatic recombinant mosaics demonstrate that the eye alone does not induce the optic lobe phenotype. Optic lobes have a similar but more extreme phenotype than in ogre2 individuals. The remainder of the CNS has variable holes distributed throughout the neuropil.
embryonic lethal.
ogre3 is rescued by ogre+t12.5
Mutant phenotype can be rescued by the introduction of a wild type ogre gene by P element mediated transformation: wild type optic lobe structure is restored. Homozygous lethal phenotype can be rescued by ogre+t12.5 and wild type optic lobe structure is restored in hemizygous males.
