Homozygous embryos have weak segmentation defects. The A2/A3 denticle belts appear curved due to a deletion of the lateral edges between the belts. Deletion of naked cuticle between the A4/A5 and A6/A7 denticles is also seen. Defects in the projection of the lch1 neurons are seen in stage 15 embryos.
Segmentation defect is more severe at higher temperatures. The temperature sensitive period of females doubly heterozygous for run29 and sisA- is extremely short and occurs within the first 2-3 hours of development, during the syncytial blastoderm stage and some of cellularisation. Mutations causes masculinization of triploid intersexes (2X;3A).
run29 embryos shifted to the restrictive temperature after the cellular blastoderm stage have wild-type segmentation.
