Mutants show a strong impairment of indirect flight muscle differentiation at 21 hours after puparium formation.

sd¹³/sd^ETX4 flies have a scalloped wing phenotype, with little loss of wing blade tissue but variable erosion of the wing margin (ranging from very conspicuous to loss of only a few margin bristles).

Gross morphological head abnormalities. Heterozygotes with viable sd alleles exhibit an extreme wing phenotype. At the late lethal stage individuals exhibit vestigal-like pupal wings.
