11bp of genomic sequence within E(var)3-9 has been replaced by 16bp of unrelated sequence, resulting in a frameshift. This should result in a truncated protein containing 168 amino acid residues of the wild-type product, followed by an additional 24 amino acids resulting from out-of-frame translation.
