1.15kb insertion of defective (KP) P element in 5' region of Gpdh gene, at nucleotide position 1305, inserted in the same orientation as the Gpdh gene. This KP element is identical in sequence to the two KP elements isolated by Black et al.,(1987, EMBO J 6:4125--4135 ). A T to G substitution unique to this allele was found, also in the 5' untranslated region, at nucleotide position 1267. The sequence GTGCAAAC is found at the insertion site and is repeated at the 3'end of the element.
The level of Gpdh1 RNA is significantly reduced in the low activity strain Gpdh1AT198.
Less than 50% activity of glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase compared to normal-activity wild type allele.
Homozygous GpdhAT198 flies and GpdhAT198/Df(2L)GpdhA flies have reduced Gpdh enzyme activity compared to wild-type. Slow electrophoretic variant.
