Embryos laid by eaΔN females are weakly ventralised.

Injection of eaΔN RNA into embryos lacking ea causes a lateralised phenotype.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Expression in gd7 females (lack wild type ea activity) produces lateralised embryos. Further injection of eaΔN RNA transcripts into these embryos causes cells at all dorsal-ventral positions near the injection site to develop like the most ventral cell type - the mesoderm.

Also synthetic RNA transcripts are generated by in vitro transcription and injected into the centre of 0-1 hour embryos.

Active ea proteolytically cleaves spz when coexpressed in conditioned cell culture fluid, a 12kD carboxy-terminal fragment is generated.
