100% of embryos derived from homozygous or gd7/Df(1)KA10 females have a class I phenotype (they are strongly dorsalised, lacking both ventral denticles and filzkorper).

Embryos derived from homozygous females lack ventral structures such as the mesoderm and neurogenic ectoderm.

Embryos laid by homozygous gd7 mothers, fail to undergo ventral and lateral development, therefore developing the dorsalized phenotype evident during gastrulation and in the cuticle pattern.

Embryos derived from homozygous females have very few amnioserosa cells.

Bacterially challenged mutants exhibit a wild type Drs response. Pattern of response of CecA1 and CecA2 parallels that of Drs. Dpt and Dro remain fully inducible and pattern of expression of AttA and Def in intermediate.

Mutant embryos respond to injected purified polarizing activity (spz).

Phenotype of strong alleles indistinguishable from that of dl.

Embryos were not rescued by injection of perivitelline fluid from dl donors but were rescued by Tl donors.

Transheterozygous combinations of gd mutations produce a range of cuticular phenotypes, ranging from cuticle only having dorsal characteristics, to cuticle having some ventral characteristics, such as ventral setal belts, depending on the alleles used. Some combinations of alleles complement each other.

Embryos derived from homozygous females are dorsalised.

13% of embryos from mutant mothers show weakly ventralised, as opposed to strongly ventralised, mutant phenotype. The penetrance of this suppression is increased to 50-80% when dpp dosage in increased with dppBP.hs.

Embryos from gd7/gd7;Tl3/+ mothers are lateralized. When the mothers are also duplicated for dpp, embryos show a more strongly lateralized phenotype with a more dorsal character - fewer, finer or absent denticles and a lateralized gastrulation pattern where the germband does not extend dorsally and no polarity is visible.

Cuticles of embryos collected from gd7/gd7;grkunspecified;Tl3 mothers have a more ventral character than those derived from gd7/gd7;Tl3 mothers.

Expression of eaΔN in gd7 females (lack wild type ea activity) produces lateralised embryos. Further injection of eaΔN RNA transcripts into these embryos causes cells at all dorsal-ventral positions near the injection site to develop like the most ventral cell type - the mesoderm.

Double mutant combinations with eaD1 are strongly dorsalized.
