In scaOB7 somatic clones, the spacing of the R8 photoreceptors is irregular and extra R8 cells are seen. Possible cell non-autonomous defects are sometimes seen in these clones.

scaOB7/scaBP2 flies have extra thoracic bristles.

scaWB1/scaOB7 EgfrE3/EgfrE1 double homozygotes have one R8 cell per ommatidium.

Ommatidial clusters are irregularly spaced in mutant eye discs and contain variable numbers of cells, often more than in wild type. Mutant adults have rough eyes, with ommatidia having a variable number of photoreceptor cells, often more than in wild type.
