Homozygotes show fusion of tarsal segments 2 and 3.
Homozygotes exhibit loss of growth in the proximal distal axis of the leg and wing. The middle tarsal segments, T2 and T3, are replaced by a single segment that appears to be a fusion of the two. The T1 tarsal segment, the tibia and femur are truncated. Leg phenotype arises from an initial failure in the proliferation of a subset of tarsal segments as well as failure to initiate the T2/T3 segment boundary. The intervein distance is significantly reduced due to a shortened separation between the anterior and posterior crossveins, a reduction in the total number of cells in this region. The external eye shows occasional disordered lens facets and a small number of ommatidia appear fused.
fj2 has visible phenotype, enhanceable by Df(3L)st-j7
fj2 has leg joint phenotype, enhanceable by Df(3L)st-j7
Df(3L)st-j7, fj2 has tarsal segment 2 phenotype
Df(3L)st-j7, fj2 has metatarsus phenotype
fj2/fj2 ; Df(3L)st-j7/+ flies show partial or complete fusions of tarsal segment 1 and 2 as well as the fusion of tarsal segments 2 and 3 seen in fj2 single mutants.
