      hhfse heterozygotes are not significantly different from wild-type.

      Homozygous hhfse eyes are only 32% smaller than hhfse/+ eyes and in trans with the null hhAC are further reduced to 78%.

      hhfse homozygotes have about 20 columns of ommatidia compared to 28 to 30 in wild-type.

      Homozygotes have kidney shaped eyes. The imaginal disc shows the morphogenetic furrow stops early.
