The ocellar lens is generally absent, although small deformed lenses are sometimes seen in the normal location of the ocelli. These lenses have wart-like protuberances, are variable in size and have microsetae within the lens area. The compound eyes are normal.
Flies lack ocelli. Flies do not show positive phototaxis in response to extremely dim light stimuli.
