    Description

FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Hemizygous males have legs that are 19% shorter than wild-type. Shortening starts at the coxa (10% shorter than normal) and becomes more pronounced distally (except for the trochanter), with the maximum decrease (44%) in the second to third tarsal segments. The two most distal tarsal segments are slightly longer than wild-type. The total length of the wing is reduced by 10%, with maximum shortening (50%) occurring between the anterior and posterior cross veins, while the proximal longitudinal veins are longer or unchanged. The effect on wing width is small. The scutellum is shorter and wider than wild-type. Aristal length is reduced, although the number of aristal branches and length of the basal segment is normal. The third antennal segment has a decreased length and an increased width. The second tergite is reduced in length, other tergites are normal.

The reversal of cell polarity that is seen in cells anterior to clones in the anterior compartment of the dorsal epidermis of the adult abdomen (in the tergite) where the clones are expressing ftScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL is enhanced if the clones are induced in a fjunspecified background compared to a wild-type background; the repolarisation occurs over a greater range in the fjunspecified background.

The reversal of cell polarity that is seen in cells posterior to clones in the anterior compartment of the dorsal epidermis of the adult abdomen (in the tergite) where the clones are expressing dsecto.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL is enhanced if the clones are induced in a fjunspecified background compared to a wild-type background; the repolarisation occurs over a greater range in the fjunspecified background.

The weak reversal of cell polarity phenotype that is seen in cells posterior to clones in the anterior compartment of the dorsal epidermis of the adult abdomen (in the tergite) where the clones are expressing dsScer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL is not enhanced if the clones are induced in a fjunspecified background compared to a wild-type background.

fjunspecified/+ enhances the numbers of ommatidial inversions in ds1/dsUAO71 flies.
