      Five minute heat shock of 2.5 to 3 hour old embryos (before and after gastrulation began) followed by 15 minutes recovery has only subtle effects on the embryos. 30 minutes of heat shock of 2.5 to 3 hour old embryos causes severe segmentation and head defects similar to those caused by strong D alleles.
