Detailed Description

The eyes of hemizygous male flies show planar polarity phenotypes (misrotated or achiral ommatidia), although at a very low frequency.

Homozygous clones in the eye show planar polarity defects, with 2.9% of ommatidia being abnormal.

Cdc421/Cdc425 mutant eyes display disruptions in the normal ommatidial pattern, ommatidial fusion, and loss of bristles in the dorsal posterior quadrant. All photoreceptor cells are present within the ommatidia and in the proper orientation. Cdc421/Cdc425 mutant wings often have extra anterior crossveins.

Rac1J11, Rac2Δ, MtlΔ triple mutant clones in the eye result in a low frequency (approximately 5%) of planar polarity defects (such as achiral or misrotated ommatidia). Cdc425, Rac1J11, Rac2Δ, MtlΔ quadruple mutant clones in the eye result in a higher frequency of (14.2%) of planar polarity defects.
