Embryos exhibit defects in heart morphogenesis, the posterior region of the dorsal vessel remains open. Axonal bundles in the PNS of homozygotes appear defasciculated and thicker than those of normal embryos.
Δ2-3 induced reversion demonstrates the insertion may be responsible for the lethal phenotype.
